We are pleased to announce that Elmeck Wires & Cables has successfully renewed its Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification — reaffirming our commitment to manufacturing electrical wires and cables that meet India's most stringent quality benchmarks.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is India's national standards body, operating under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. BIS defines and enforces quality standards for hundreds of product categories — and for electrical wires and cables, compliance is not optional. The ISI mark (Indian Standards Institute mark) is mandatory for PVC insulated house wires and cables under IS 694. Any wire sold for electrical installation in India without this mark is non-compliant and potentially dangerous.
The ISI mark on an Elmeck wire tells you three things: the product has been tested to the relevant Indian Standard, the manufacturing facility has been audited, and ongoing surveillance is in place to ensure standards are consistently maintained.
Our renewed BIS licence covers the full range of products that form the core of Elmeck's manufacturing output. These include:
FR (Flame Retardant) house wires — IS 694, for standard residential and commercial wiring
FRLS (Flame Retardant Low Smoke) house wires — IS 694, for enclosed spaces and commercial buildings
Single core and multicore PVC insulated cables for internal wiring
Submersible pump cables — for motor connections in borewell and water pump applications
PVC insulated cables rated up to 1100V
Each of these product lines has been independently tested and verified. The certification covers conductor quality, insulation compound, dimensional tolerances, voltage withstand, and electrical resistance — all specified precisely under IS 694 and related BIS standards.
Obtaining and maintaining a BIS licence is a rigorous process — one that separates genuine quality manufacturers from those who cut corners. The process involves multiple stages:
Application and documentation — manufacturer submits details of factory, processes, and quality systems
Factory audit — BIS officers inspect the manufacturing facility, testing equipment, and quality controls
Product sample testing — samples are drawn and tested at BIS-recognised third-party laboratories
Laboratory verification — tests include conductor resistance, insulation thickness, voltage withstand test, and mechanical properties
Licence grant — once the factory and product pass all tests, a BIS licence number is issued
Surveillance visits — BIS conducts periodic surprise inspections and market sample testing post-grant
This is not a one-time tick-box exercise. BIS maintains ongoing oversight, and any deviation from the standard can result in licence suspension. This is what gives the ISI mark its credibility.
BIS licences are not permanent — they require periodic renewal to remain valid. Renewal ensures that manufacturers have not allowed their quality systems or processes to deteriorate over time. The renewal process at Elmeck involved:
Annual testing of product samples across all certified categories at accredited laboratories
Updated technical documentation including raw material test reports and process records
Factory inspection by BIS officers — covering machinery, conductor drawing, stranding, extrusion, and finished goods testing
Review of market complaints and corrective actions, if any
Submission of renewal application and fee to BIS
Final clearance and issuance of the renewed licence
We are proud to report that Elmeck passed the renewal audit without any non-conformances. Our manufacturing processes, testing laboratory, and quality documentation all met BIS requirements in full.
For our customers — builders, contractors, electricians, and homeowners — the renewed BIS certification provides concrete assurances:
Every Elmeck wire you purchase meets the minimum conductor cross-section and resistance requirements of IS 694
The insulation on our cables meets the specified thickness and voltage withstand requirements
You are legally protected — ISI marked wires are compliant with Indian electrical installation codes
Insurance and regulatory compliance for buildings is easier when ISI certified wires are used
In case of any dispute or fire safety investigation, ISI certification provides documented proof of standards compliance
Choosing ISI certified wires is not just about quality — it is about safety and accountability. Non-ISI wires may appear cheaper upfront but carry real risks of overheating, insulation failure, and electrical fires.
We encourage customers, dealers, and project managers to verify our BIS licence independently. There are three easy ways to do this:
Check the wire surface — the BIS licence number, IS standard number (IS 694), and ISI mark are printed directly on every metre of our cables
BIS Care App — download the official BIS Care mobile application (available on Android and iOS), enter the licence number, and verify instantly
BIS website — visit bis.gov.in and search for the licence number under the 'Licence Details' section
Contact Elmeck directly — we are happy to provide a copy of our current BIS licence certificate to dealers, builders, and project authorities on request
Our licence number is printed on the product itself, so you never have to take our word for it — you can verify independently at any time.
Renewing our BIS certification is not a milestone we celebrate once and forget — it is part of an ongoing commitment to quality that defines how we operate every day. We are continuously investing in our manufacturing infrastructure, testing capabilities, and quality systems.
Over the coming year, we plan to expand our certified product range to include additional cable specifications that serve the growing needs of Indian infrastructure — including products for the solar energy sector, railway applications, and high-specification industrial wiring.
At Elmeck, quality is not a department — it is a culture. From the copper conductor to the outer insulation, every step of our manufacturing process is designed around one principle: the wire that leaves our factory must be safe, reliable, and compliant. The BIS mark on our products is our promise to you — backed by third-party testing and government oversight.
Thank you to our customers, dealers, and partners across India for your continued trust in Elmeck Wires & Cables. We look forward to serving you with the same commitment to quality for decades to come.
